Does Therapy Work?
Yes. A large body of scientific research has established that psychotherapy is effective for a wide range of problems. It has been shown to alleviate psychological symptoms, increase adaptive functioning, reduce future symptom episodes, enhance the quality of life, and increase the likelihood of healthy choices. The effects of therapy tend to be stronger than medications alone, tend to last longer, and tend to increase over time.
Does Open Road Accept Insurance?
I don't accept health insurance. I will accept direct payment from you at the established hourly rate at the beginning of each session. You can pay with cash or check, a major credit card, or can use a mobile payment app such as PayPal or VenMo.
How Long Does Therapy Take?
The length of therapy varies from person to person. If you meet with me, expect that we will take about the first 2-3 sessions to get to know each other, so we can determine if we are a good fit. When clients present with a concrete goal, therapy is often quite time-limited (i.e., 6 sessions), but if your presenting issue is more complex, it will take more time to explore and address your concern. While I initially see clients on a weekly basis, these meetings will taper off to bimonthly or even monthly as you show improvement. Prior to discharge from treatment, it will be important to establish to your satisfaction that your changes are real and permanent.
You Do Therapy In a Van?
Sometimes. 4-Wheel Therapy is one service I offer. I recognized some time ago that many people have a hard time making it in for therapy on a regular basis. They are busy! Having to take time off or try and make an appointment before or after work is hard. So, I came up with a client-focused, convenient solution. I decided to take therapy on the road in my mobile office.
How Will I Know If Therapy Is Working?
You will know that therapy is working when you begin to demonstrate new behaviors and thinking patterns that support your goals. Typically, these changes are accompanied by an increase in positive feelings and a growing sense that you have value in the world. Like many things, therapy does not guarantee change; however, if the active ingredients are present (i.e., a good therapist-client relationship, shared agreement of goals, and a collaborative approach), remaining stuck is nearly impossible.
Is Therapy Really Confidential?
While the content of sessions and any communications between therapist and client are required by law to be kept confidential, there are a few exceptions. These exceptions include: the disclosure of abuse or neglect of a child, elder, or dependent; and, the discovery that a client is at risk of harming him/herself or others.
How Long Are Therapy Sessions?
It will vary depending on the service you choose. In general, however, the initial session will be 60 minutes, while all follow-up sessions will last approximately 45-50 minutes.
What Is Your Cancellation Policy?
If you need to cancel a session, please notify me at least 24 hours before your scheduled appointment. Cancellation less than 24 hours before session will result in a charge for the 1/2 the full rate.
